Brief: The University community is made up of a wide range of people with diverse backgrounds and circumstances, which we value and regard as a great asset. As part of our continued commitment to equality and inclusion, we strive to create an environment where everyone can reach their full potential and have a real opportunity to participate in and contribute to our activities.

The Equality Access Project is part of the University’s requirement to meet the Equality Act 2010 and the aspirations noted above.

As part of our continued commitment to equality and inclusion, the work on Equality Access Improvements will include:

  • Improved access to the Parkinson Building.
  • Works to Weetwood Pavilion and Rugby Stand Bar
  • New Lift to the School of Chemistry to access Lecture Theatres A & B
  • Works to access Building entrances to Engineering Food Science
  • Maintenance and External Environment works comprising:-
    • Providing more necessary handrails and better visual contrast at entrances, on steps and along pathways generally;
    • Replacement of high kerbs with drop kerbs and the introduction of textured paving (to assist the partially sighted);
    • Providing better access at reception counters;
    • Easier door opening and improved door access control within buildings;
    • More accessible seating;
    • Improvements to toilet layouts;
    • Signage/wayfinding improvements;
    • Improvements to ramps and some new ramps to replace steps;
    • The provision of new and more accessible pathways and parking bays;
    • The provision of more gender neutral changing & toilet facilities;
    • Provision of induction loops;
    • Lift car and control improvements;
